Gyeongju to hold cherry promotion event

Gyeongju city will hold a promotional event to showcase the taste and quality of its locally grown cherries.

According to the city, the event will run June 6-7 in front of the main branch of Gyeongju Nonghyup, featuring the first cherry harvest of the year.

The two-day event is designed to let consumers experience firsthand the freshness and quality of Gyeongju cherries at the peak of the harvest season.

A tasting session will also be held, where visitors can sample different varieties and take part in a consumer preference survey.

Gyeongju cherries have a 100-year cultivation history and are grown across 70 hectares, accounting for roughly 10 percent of national cherry output — making them one of the region's signature crops.

"Gyeongju cherries are a representative local specialty with a long cultivation history and strong quality competitiveness," said Kim Jeong-pil, head of the Gyeongju Agricultural Technology Center. "Through this event, we will widely promote the excellence of Gyeongju cherries and further strengthen the foundation for high-quality production."
