13 water feature facilities including fountains and waterfalls begin operation in May, creating cool scenic spots throughout the district; 5 water playgrounds — including the Anyangcheon Family Garden in June and 4 children's parks in July — open in stages
[The Herald Business = Senior Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu will begin full operation of 18 water facilities across the district this month, giving residents a cool escape from the summer heat close to home. The lineup includes floor fountains, water playgrounds, a pond with a waterwheel, and a waterfall.
The 18 facilities break down into 11 floor and general fountains, 5 water playgrounds, 1 pond and waterwheel, and 1 waterfall. Flagship sites include the Paris Park floor fountain, Haenuri Fountain Plaza, and the Anyangcheon Sinaecheon Ecological Park fountain. Paris Park is particularly notable: its floor fountain and musical fountain alternate four and three times daily, respectively, running from noon to 7:20 p.m. to offer a refreshing retreat in the heart of the city.
Five water playgrounds where children can splash away the summer heat will open in stages beginning in June. The sites are Anyangcheon Family Garden, Baekseok Children's Park, Bangok Children's Park, Gyeongin Children's Park and Hanul Neighborhood Park.
The first to open, the Anyangcheon Family Garden water playground, launches June 20 and runs through September. Spanning roughly 1,000 square meters, it features water tunnels, water baskets and a range of other play equipment, with a grass lawn, rose garden and ecological wetland nearby — making it a popular summer destination for families.
Starting July 1, water playgrounds at children's parks across the district's neighborhoods will also open. Baekseok Children's Park in Mok 3-dong features water drawn from a well and spray mist; Bangok Children's Park in Sinwol 1-dong offers a combination water play structure and a large umbrella fountain; Gyeongin Children's Park in Sinwol 3-dong has a floor fountain and a shallow wading stream; and Hanul Neighborhood Park in Sinwol 7-dong boasts a large water slide and water baskets set into a forested hillside.
During the summer school vacation, the SeoSeoul Lake Park Children's Water Playground — an emerging favorite among the district's summer destinations — will also open. Set on the park's cultural deck, the facility will include a large pool 120 centimeters deep, a water slide, a water gun pool and an inflatable pool for toddlers, along with lockers and changing rooms.
Admission is free and open to children in elementary school (age 12 and under) and their guardians. The playground operates July 21 through Aug. 23, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Yangcheon-gu plans to strengthen facility inspections and hygiene management so visitors can enjoy the water attractions safely and comfortably. Water quality tests will be conducted every 15 days during the operating period, with thorough sanitation measures maintained throughout. Trained safety personnel will also be stationed at the five water playgrounds and Paris Park to prevent accidents.
