Centre Pompidou Hanwha opens at Seoul's 63 Building after Hanmi Global completes remodeling PM

Hanmi Global has successfully completed construction project management for the Centre Pompidou Hanwha remodeling project at the 63 Building in Yeouido, Seoul.

The company announced Sunday that it had wrapped up its PM role on the project. Centre Pompidou Hanwha is set to open Thursday.

The venue was created by remodeling the basement first floor and annex of the 63 Building in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu. It is the third overseas outpost of the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and its opening will allow local audiences to view works by 20th-century masters such as Picasso and Chagall without leaving the country. The 63 Building is expected to draw more tourists to the Yeouido area and boost the local economy by adding world-class cultural content to its existing identity as a landmark skyscraper.

Hanmi Global oversaw the entire remodeling process from the planning stage through completion. The company coordinated communication among the client, designers and contractors, supporting a zero-accident record and on-schedule delivery of the museum remodeling work.

Remodeling work that preserves an existing building's structural frame demands precise schedule and safety management, as demolition and new construction must proceed simultaneously within confined spaces.

Unexpected variables arose during the project — including cases where actual site conditions differed from the drawings during demolition of existing structures. Hanmi Global said it led coordination among the client, designers and contractors to keep the construction timeline and budget on track.

Han Ji-heon, a Hanmi Global director who served as on-site PM chief, said the team achieved both safety management and on-time completion through proactive risk management. "It was the result of every stakeholder coming together as one team, driven by a sense of mission to build a world-class art museum inside the 63 Building — one of Korea's most iconic structures," he said.

Meanwhile, Hanmi Global is also continuing to expand its global business footprint. Last month, the company signed a strategic alliance agreement with global PM firm Atkins Realis to jointly pursue major construction projects in the United States, including nuclear power plants and industrial facilities, accelerating the diversification of its overseas project portfolio.
