Collection spans iconic masterpieces and rare holdings from the Munch Museum; collaborations with the Met and MoMA also on offer
Samsung Electronics announced Sunday it has partnered with Norway's Munch Museum to bring 37 works by Edvard Munch to the Samsung Art Store, including iconic masterpieces and rare pieces from the museum's collection that have never been publicly displayed. The Samsung Art Store is an art subscription service exclusive to Samsung TVs.
The "Munch Museum" collection features some of the expressionist master's most celebrated works — "The Scream," "The Sun," "The Dance of Life" and "Melancholy" — alongside rarely seen pieces such as "Garden with Trees" and "Two People at Table" that have been largely inaccessible to the general public.
Samsung Art Store subscribers can experience the works at home through the picture quality of Samsung's Art TVs. The collection also includes rare pieces whose public display has been restricted even at the Norwegian museum itself, due to concerns about potential damage.
Samsung Electronics said it continues to expand the art-viewing experience through the Samsung Art Store, which now offers more than 5,000 works from world-renowned institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. The service is available across Samsung's Art TV lineup, including The Frame Pro, The Frame, Micro RGB, Neo QLED and OLED models.
Tone Hansen, director of the Munch Museum, said the collaboration is "an exciting and meaningful opportunity to share the intimate artistic world of Edvard Munch with a wider audience, beyond the physical boundaries of the museum."
Tommy Nilsson, director of Samsung Electronics' Sweden office, said the Samsung Art Store helps more people encounter art naturally in their everyday lives. "We hope you enjoy experiencing the Munch Museum collection vividly from the comfort of your own home," he added.
