People Power Party lawmaker Yoo Young-ha said he could feel from the faces and gestures of the crowd that people still love and miss former President Park Geun-hye. He added that, like King Danjong — restored to the throne after being demoted to the title of Nosangun — Park too would be returned to her rightful place.
In a Facebook post Sunday, Yoo said he had accompanied Park to Seomun Market in Jung-gu and Suseongmot in Suseong-gu, Daegu, on Saturday, adding that the only word he could find to describe the scene was "a sea of people."
"More important than the sheer number of people was the love and longing for the president that I felt from them, and their sorrow at having failed to protect her," he said. "You could tell without a word being spoken — just from their faces and their gestures. I, too, felt heartbroken having to hold back the hands that stretched out with all their strength just to touch hers."
Yoo also expressed concern for Park's physical condition, saying her hands and shoulders had been grabbed by the crowd on Saturday and that she had required emergency treatment upon returning to her private residence.
"Just as Danjong was restored after being stripped of his title as Nosangun, the yoke of lies and false accusations placed on former President Park will surely be lifted and she will be restored to her rightful place," Yoo said. "This is the last calling left to me, so I will not rush — I will go slowly. However long it takes, I must not give up until the very end."
He added that the day was not far off when those who had subjected Park to public humiliation and carried out what he called a "character assassination" with a "cruel dance of knives" would face the consequences of their actions.
