Firm oversaw full 63 Building remodel
Project delivered on time, without accidents
Hanmi Global has successfully completed project management for the remodeling of Centre Pompidou Hanwha in Yeouido, Seoul. The company announced Sunday that it had wrapped up PM duties on the project, with the venue set to open Thursday.
Centre Pompidou Hanwha was created by remodeling the first below-ground floor and an annex of the 63 Building in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu. It is the third overseas outpost of the Centre Pompidou in Paris, following satellite locations in Malaga, Spain, and Shanghai, China.
The opening will allow domestic audiences to view works by 20th-century masters such as Picasso and Chagall without leaving the country. The 63 Building is expected to draw more tourists to the Yeouido area and boost the local economy by adding a world-class cultural destination to its profile as a landmark skyscraper.
Hanmi Global oversaw the entire remodeling process from the planning stage through completion, coordinating communication among the client, designers and contractors to help the museum project achieve a zero-accident record and on-schedule delivery.
Remodeling work that preserves an existing building's structural frame demands precise schedule and safety management, as demolition and new construction proceed simultaneously in confined spaces. Hanmi Global established a close-contact safety management system — including daily on-site inspections tailored to the project's specific conditions — and completed the work without any serious accidents.
Unexpected variables also arose during demolition, including cases where actual site conditions differed from the original drawings. Hanmi Global said it led coordination among the client, designers and contractors to keep the construction timeline and budget on track.
Han Ji-heon, a Hanmi Global director who served as on-site PM chief, said the dual goals of safety and on-time completion were achieved through proactive risk management. "It was the result of every stakeholder coming together as one team, driven by a sense of mission to build a world-class art museum inside the 63 Building — one of South Korea's most iconic structures," he said.
Meanwhile, Hanmi Global continues to expand its global business. Last month, the company signed a strategic alliance agreement with global PM firm Atkins Realis to jointly pursue major construction projects in the United States, including nuclear power plants and industrial facilities, accelerating the diversification of its overseas project portfolio.
