Jeju Island offers up to 50,000 won in travel subsidies for individual tourists starting Thursday

Jeju Island will offer individual tourists travel subsidies worth up to 50,000 won ($33) ahead of the peak summer season.

Jeju Island and the Jeju Tourism Organization said they will run a thank-you promotion from Thursday through June 30, distributing travel subsidies to individual tourists visiting Jeju during that period.

The program was designed to ease the financial burden on tourists amid rising fuel surcharges and other travel costs, and to encourage longer stays on the island.

Eligibility is limited to individual tourists aged 14 or older who stay at least two nights in Jeju and are registered with NOWDA, the island's digital tourism pass. Those already receiving support through other programs — such as the Jeju Tourism Association's group tour incentive project — are excluded.

Tourists staying between two and four nights will receive 20,000 won ($13) in benefits, while those staying five nights or more will receive 50,000 won ($33).

The first phase runs from Thursday through June 14 at a Jeju Running Week promotional booth on the first floor of Jeju International Airport, across from Gate 3. During this period, subsidies will be paid in Tamnaneunjeon, Jeju's local currency.

The second phase runs from June 15 through June 30 at the Jeju Tourism Organization's Jungmun duty-free shop, where recipients can choose between Tamnaneunjeon or a Jeju Tourism Organization duty-free voucher.

To claim the subsidy, tourists must bring a government-issued ID to verify they reside outside Jeju, along with a flight or ferry booking confirmation showing a stay of at least two nights. An accommodation reservation or rental car booking confirmation must also be submitted.

The promotion may end early if the allocated budget of 800 million won ($545,000) is exhausted before June 30.
