Musinsa announced Monday it will introduce packaging made from plant-based materials, in line with the growing trend toward plastic-free circular economies.
The fashion platform signed an MOU with GRICO, a startup specializing in eco-friendly biotech materials, to cooperate on sustainable packaging and green management. GRICO has developed proprietary technology for producing and processing eco-friendly materials and packaging from agricultural and fishery byproducts such as rice and rice husks.
Musinsa plans to gradually replace its packaging with bio-based alternatives derived from agricultural and fishery sources, responding to naphtha supply instability and the broader shift toward circular economies. The company will first test eco-friendly packaging on select products from its private-label line Musinsa Standard, then conduct a comprehensive review before any full-scale rollout.
Beyond jointly developing eco-friendly packaging, the two companies will work together to expand the use of sustainable materials, pursue ESG-based projects and campaigns, and advance carbon-reduction efforts through sustainable material development.
"Going green is no longer just a matter of corporate social responsibility — it is a core challenge for staying competitive in the global fashion market," a Musinsa official said. "We will take the lead in spreading a resource-circulation-based culture of eco-friendly consumption."
