Geumcheon-gu and WeLoveU Create Donation Garden Along Anyang Stream

Geumcheon-gu, led by District Mayor Yoo Sung-hoon, established the "Anyang Stream Donation Garden" in the rose garden area along Anyang Stream on May 27, in partnership with global volunteer organization WeLoveU.

The two parties signed an MOU for the project, agreeing to create an approximately 25-square-meter garden near 765 Siheung-dong, Geumcheon-gu, under the theme of "the importance of river environments in responding to climate change." They also committed to cooperating on the garden's ongoing maintenance.

WeLoveU donated greening materials valued at approximately 7 million won ($4,630) and mobilized about 20 members to carry out planting work, including shrubs and flowering plants.

The project carries added significance as it goes beyond simple planting activities, representing a socially responsible green space initiative built on voluntary private participation and public cooperation.

Geumcheon-gu and WeLoveU plan to continue collaborating on maintenance — including weeding, cleaning and watering — to ensure the donation garden takes root sustainably.

Geumcheon-gu said it is pursuing socially responsible park and green space projects through private participation and cooperation, with the aim of spreading a garden culture in everyday life and encouraging private-sector involvement and a culture of donation.

In 2024, the district created a corporate participation garden inside Omi Ecological Park using trees donated by a Geumcheon-gu-based company, valued at approximately 100 million won ($72,500).

The district said it hopes the initiative will serve as an opportunity to reflect on the importance of river environments in an era of climate change and to bring residents closer to nature and garden culture in their daily lives.

"We are grateful to all WeLoveU members who joined us in this meaningful act of donation and volunteer service," a district official said. "We will continue to work with a wide range of private organizations to steadily expand green spaces and garden culture that residents can truly feel and enjoy."
