"Cooperating with government and relevant authorities on investigation"
Tving CEO Choi Joo-hee has issued an apology after the streaming platform confirmed a leak of user personal data, pledging to "take responsibility to the end" for any harm caused.
In a statement released Wednesday evening, Choi said the company had "confirmed that user personal information was leaked through unauthorized external access." She added that Tving had taken necessary countermeasures after discovering the breach and is "sincerely cooperating with investigations by the government and relevant authorities."
"I sincerely apologize for causing great concern to our users through this incident," Choi said, adding that the company would "transparently communicate the progress of the investigation and any follow-up measures."
Earlier Wednesday, Tving disclosed on its website that the breach exposed member IDs, names, dates of birth, gender, phone numbers and email addresses. Resident registration numbers and active payment information were not compromised, the company said.
The exact number of affected users has not been disclosed. Tving said it is notifying affected users individually. Choi said the company would "take responsibility to the end to remedy damages and protect users."
The Ministry of Science and ICT formed a joint public-private investigation team and launched a probe into the breach. Tving had reported the incident to the ministry on June 1 after becoming aware of the data leak.
"Tving takes this incident with the utmost seriousness," Choi said. "We will review our security systems from the ground up to ensure this never happens again, and we will fulfill our responsibilities to the end to restore the trust of our users."
