Kang Eun-hee wins third term as Daegu education superintendent, first in city's history

Kang Eun-hee won a third consecutive term as Daegu's superintendent of education in the 9th National Simultaneous Local Elections, becoming the first person in the city's history to hold the post for three terms.

"I extend my deepest gratitude to the citizens of Daegu," Kang said Thursday. "I take this victory as a mandate from the people to pursue stable progress in Daegu's education while continuing to drive change and innovation."

She said the achievements of the past eight years were the result of collaboration among students, parents, teachers and citizens alike. "Daegu's education has led the way in innovation — introducing the IB curriculum for the first time in public education nationwide and becoming the first in the country to resume full in-person schooling during the COVID-19 pandemic," she said.

Looking ahead, Kang pledged to transform Daegu from South Korea's education capital into a globally recognized hub for learning. "The next four years will be a time of challenge as we grow Daegu into a global education capital that the world takes notice of," she said. "I will put students at the center of education, listen to voices from the classroom, and build an environment where students, teachers and parents are all satisfied."

"I will do my utmost so that our children can pursue their dreams on the world stage," Kang said. "I will dedicate myself to the innovation and advancement of Daegu's education."
