Jang Mi-in-ae announces comeback after retiring from entertainment industry

Actor Jang Mi-in-ae, who retired from the entertainment industry, has announced a fresh start as an entrepreneur.

Jang posted on her social media account Wednesday, writing: "I'm starting again. I was actually an actor." She added that after becoming a mother, her child came before herself, and that at some point she had forgotten who she was.

"I got a nail art treatment for the first time in five years — I don't know why, but it made me so happy," she wrote. "I'm slowly rediscovering myself."

She then revealed she had spent more than a year preparing her own brand. "I traveled far to learn the craft and even established a corporation," she wrote. "But just before it was ready to launch, I had to let everything go for various reasons, and the names I had created were never registered."

"I'm going to start from scratch again, thinking through the brand name and building it up," she added. "Waiting until everything is perfect and never starting at all is far worse than starting over. Please watch as I slowly change and grow."

Jang made her debut in 2003. In 2013, she received a suspended sentence — eight months in prison, suspended for two years — after being convicted on charges of illegally using propofol.

Six years later, in 2019, she resumed her career with an appearance in the drama series "Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho 2: Crime and Punishment."

In March 2020, following an online dispute with users over a political issue, she declared she would "no longer work as an actor in South Korea" and announced her retirement from the entertainment industry.

She later filed for marriage with a non-celebrity entrepreneur in 2022 and gave birth to a son that October. A wedding ceremony followed in April 2023.

Jang made her debut through the MBC sitcom "Nonstop 4" in 2003 and went on to appear in productions including "Rainbow Romance," "Soul Mate," "Crime Season 2" and the TV novel "Sister Bokhee."
