Around 2,500 residents expected to join the June 13 morning walk along the Hongneung Forest Trail at the National Institute of Forest Science; performances, talent show and prize draws round out the event
Seoul's Dongdaemun-gu will host the "2026 First-Half Dongdaemun-gu Community Walking Day" on June 13 at 7 a.m. along the Hongneung Forest Trail at the National Institute of Forest Science, district Mayor Lee Pil-hyung announced.
Organized by the Dongdaemun-gu Sports Council and sponsored by the district office, the event is one of the area's flagship community health initiatives, with roughly 2,500 residents expected to take part. Participants will walk an approximately 2.5-kilometer stretch of the forested trail — a rare patch of urban nature — while connecting with neighbors and family.
The program opens with a jump-rope demonstration and an opening ceremony, followed by a warm-up exercise session. Participants then set off along the lush early-summer trail with family, friends and neighbors.
After the walk, an outdoor stage will host congratulatory performances, a residents' talent show and prize draws. Prize vouchers will be distributed at the midpoint of the course and redeemed only by those who complete the full route, encouraging participants to walk the entire distance.
Bottled water, snacks and commemorative gifts will be provided to all participants, and admission is free for residents of all ages. Those wishing to join need only arrive at the Hongneung Forest Trail venue by 7 a.m. on the day of the event.
The event is supported by a range of local institutions and businesses, including KB Kookmin Bank's Dongdaemun-gu Office branch, Lotte Department Store's Cheongnyangni branch, Dong-A Pharmaceutical, Seoul Naun Hospital, the Korea Health Management Association's Seoul East Branch, Creative Road, Woori Planning and the Dongdaemun Newspaper.
"This is a meaningful event where residents can walk through a green forest path alongside their neighbors and enjoy both good health and a moment of calm," district Mayor Lee said. "I hope many residents will come out with their families, friends and neighbors to soak in the feel of early summer."
