Nam Han-kwon wins reelection as Ulleung-gun county chief

Independent candidate Nam Han-kwon won reelection as county chief of Ulleung-gun in the 9th nationwide local elections.

In a victory statement Thursday, Nam expressed his gratitude to residents. "To the people of Ulleung-gun, whom I deeply respect and love — I sincerely thank you for entrusting me with the county's administration again," he said. "This is a victory for all the great people of Ulleung-gun, who yearn for change and aspire to move beyond the island's limitations toward a greater future."

Nam said he took the result as a clear mandate. "Your choice to support me — an independent without any party backing — I take as a solemn order to build Ulleung with my eyes fixed solely on the people," he said. "I will work relentlessly for the prosperity of Ulleung and the happiness of its residents."

He also extended thanks to his rivals. "The competition during the election laid the groundwork for Ulleung's development," he said. "I will bring together the policies and directions put forward and work to build a better Ulleung."

Nam pledged to serve as a unifying leader. "From here on, I will be a county chief who embraces every resident," he said, adding that he would return to work Thursday to address pressing issues. "Once again, I thank the people of Ulleung-gun."
