SK Group's Chey meets Foxconn chief after Nvidia, TSMC talks at Computex 2026

SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won (<style ref="s0">pictured, left</style>) has kept a packed schedule in Taiwan during Computex 2026, meeting a string of AI business partners. After sitting down with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and TSMC Chairman Wei Che-chia, he held talks with Foxconn Chairman Young Liu (<style ref="s1">pictured, right</style>).

Foxconn, widely known as the manufacturer of Apple's iPhone, entered the AI server market in the late 2010s and now produces AI servers for Nvidia. Chey has been actively engaging with core players in the global AI ecosystem as SK Group moves to lock in strategic partnerships ahead of the next wave of AI growth.

SK Hynix said Thursday that Chey met with Foxconn Chairman Young Liu and the company's senior executives in Taipei on Wednesday to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation on AI infrastructure.

Chey traveled to Taiwan for Computex 2026, Asia's largest IT trade show, and dove straight into AI partnership talks on the opening day by meeting with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. The two celebrated SK Hynix's recent milestone of surpassing $1 trillion in market capitalization.

On Wednesday, Chey met with TSMC Chairman Wei Che-chia for the first time in two years, sharing views on next-generation AI technology trends and agreeing to deepen their partnership. SK Hynix's sixth-generation HBM4 — set to be used in Nvidia's "Vera Rubin" processors — relies on TSMC's 12-nanometer base die and fifth-generation 10-nanometer-class DRAM (1b) process technology.

On the same day, Chey also fit in a meeting with Foxconn Chairman Young Liu, rounding out a demanding schedule. Foxconn is the world's largest contract electronics manufacturer and a key player in the AI infrastructure market, supplying AI servers to major global technology companies.

The Taiwanese company has been capitalizing on surging demand for AI data center construction, drawing on its AI server manufacturing and systems integration capabilities. Its AI server business now draws more attention than its contract manufacturing work for Apple. Foxconn entered the AI server business in 2017 and saw strong results in 2022 as the generative AI era took off.

The two sides found common ground on the challenges of building AI infrastructure. SK Group is accelerating development of core technologies for essential AI infrastructure, drawing on its industry-leading technical capabilities. As the AI industry grows more sophisticated, seamless collaboration across semiconductors, servers and systems is emerging as a critical competitive advantage.

The two companies also exchanged views on robotics, energy management and battery technology. They agreed to jointly explore future cooperation by combining SK Group's strong foundation in energy technology with Foxconn's strengths in global manufacturing, systems integration and AI applications. SK said it plans to continue reinforcing its technological competitiveness in global markets through next-generation AI memory chip innovation.

The meetings carry weight as a sign that Chey personally took charge of deepening ties with key players in the global AI ecosystem as part of a broader push to strengthen SK's infrastructure competitiveness.

There was considerable interest in Taiwan about which partners Chey would meet during his visit. At an interview held at the SK Hynix booth at Computex 2026 on Tuesday, reporters repeatedly asked who he planned to see during the trip.

"The more we expand our AI business, the more Taiwan partnerships we need — not just with TSMC," Chey said. "Since we already have a variety of partners here, I came in person to see how things are going and to think about where we go from here."

Asked which companies he would be meeting, he said, "The list would be endless if I named them all," before adding, "Foxconn and Acer are among them."
