Seongbuk-gu District Mayor Lee Seung-ro marked his first official appearance after winning Thursday's election by stepping in as a guest DJ, delivering a message of gratitude and encouragement to district office staff and signaling the start of a new chapter under the ninth term of civilian-elected district governance.
Appearing on the Seongbuk District Office's in-house 'Integrity Broadcast,' Lee said the ninth nationwide simultaneous local elections had concluded with strong interest and participation from Seongbuk residents. "Thanks to the dedication and sense of responsibility shown by Seongbuk public servants who kept the district running steadily from their posts, we were able to maintain stable administration without any gap in services," he said.
He added that residents' choice at the ballot box reflected their expectations and trust in the district administration. "I will take it as a call to listen even more humbly to residents' voices and to serve with greater accountability," he said.
Lee also said field-centered administration would be a defining principle of his ninth-term governance. "Let us build an administration together — one that looks closely at conditions closest to residents' daily lives and carefully takes in the opinions of each and every community member," he said. He urged staff to unite behind integrity and responsibility as public servants to make Seongbuk-gu a district residents trust even more.
Lee won the June 3 ninth nationwide simultaneous local elections with 58.7 percent of the vote, becoming the first district mayor in Seongbuk-gu's history to win a third consecutive term. During the campaign, he put forward strengthened care and welfare services, balanced regional development, local economic revitalization, cultural and environmental improvement, and AI-driven administrative innovation as the core visions for his ninth term.
His key campaign pledges include operating "Field District Mayor's Office 3.0," a Seongbuk-style civic self-governance platform; establishing "Kids Land," a children and family experience center for the northeastern Seoul area; pursuing a mixed-use redevelopment of the Jeongneung bus public garage; advancing the Sinwolgok District 1 urban environment improvement project; pushing forward the Gangbuk Crosstown Line and Dongbuk Line urban rail projects; expanding the issuance of Seongbuk Love Gift Certificates; operating a Youth Smart Startup Center; and building an AI-based ground subsidence monitoring system.
With the launch of his ninth term, Lee plans to deepen communication with residents and accelerate the realization of "a happy Seongbuk together" through field-centered, everyday-life-focused administration.
