President Donald Trump lashed out Thursday after the House passed a resolution limiting his war powers against Iran, calling the vote an "unpatriotic act."
In a post on his Truth Social platform Thursday local time, Trump said the House had passed a resolution "limiting my war powers during the final negotiations to end the war with Iran" — backed by "every single stupid Democrat" and "four bad Republicans." "Who does such an unpatriotic thing?" he wrote.
Trump argued that Democratic lawmakers knew how far the negotiations had advanced but were so consumed by "Trump Derangement Syndrome" that they would rather see the United States fail than allow him another victory.
He then turned on the four Republican defectors, dismissing them as people who "merely seek Attention" and adding: "They should be ashamed of themselves. MAGA!!!"
Trump's outburst reflected his frustration that the House had moved to curtail his authority at a critical moment in end-of-war negotiations with Iran. His pointed call-out of the four Republicans also appeared designed to make them targets of his hard-line MAGA base.
The House passed the resolution Thursday, limiting the president's ability to wage war against Iran without congressional approval. Three earlier versions of the measure had failed; this one cleared the chamber after four Republicans broke ranks and voted in favor.
