Swedish Embassy hosts annual Sweden Day celebration in Seoul; 21 Swedish companies and institutions take part; ES90 set for official Korean launch in July
Volvo Car Korea unveiled its next-generation all-electric flagship sedan, the ES90, in South Korea for the first time Thursday at the Sweden Day event held at the Grand Hyatt Seoul.
Sweden Day is an official diplomatic event organized annually by the Swedish Embassy in Seoul to mark Sweden's national day, bringing together representatives from Swedish business, diplomacy and culture. This year's gathering drew 21 Swedish companies and institutions, including Volvo Car Korea.
Held under the theme "Made with Sweden," the event opened with a welcome address by Swedish Ambassador to South Korea Karl-Ulrik Andersson and featured a range of programs, including a Swedish company booth stamp rally, Swedish-style catering and performances by Swedish artists.
The highlight of this year's Sweden Day was Volvo Car Korea's domestic premiere of the ES90, a next-generation all-electric flagship sedan that made its global debut last year.
"It is meaningful to unveil the ES90 — Volvo's next-generation all-electric flagship sedan — for the first time in Korea at Sweden Day, an event that embodies the philosophy and identity of Sweden," said Lee Yun-mo, president of Volvo Car Korea. "As one of the brands that represents Sweden, we will do our best to consistently communicate the values Volvo stands for: human-centricity and sustainability."
The ES90 is positioned as a symbolic model of how Swedish premium has evolved in the age of electrification, and comes loaded with top-tier convenience features designed to deliver an intuitive sense of Swedish luxury.
The vehicle can travel up to 706 kilometers on a single charge under the WLTP standard, using advanced electric vehicle technology. It is also engineered with a sophisticated core computing system and over-the-air software updates, allowing its functions and performance to be continuously improved.
The ES90 comes standard with Google's next-generation infotainment system and supports 5G connectivity, delivering the information drivers need, when they need it, through a 9-inch driver display and a head-up display.
Volvo Car Korea plans to officially launch the ES90 in the domestic market in July.
