Singer Gangnam halts filming, hospitalized after herniated disc ruptures while putting on socks

Singer Gangnam has suspended filming and undergone a medical procedure after rupturing a herniated disc.

A video titled "We ultimately had to stop filming — the story of how I ended up in the operating room" was posted Wednesday on the YouTube channel "Neighborhood Friends Gangnam-i."

Appearing visibly worn down, Gangnam said he had felt pain while putting on socks the previous day, then went for a run, which worsened his condition.

Diagnostic tests revealed that a disc he had neglected in the past had ruptured again, forming a cyst that was pressing on a nerve.

Gangnam, whose past medical records revealed he had once fled a hospital out of fear of needles, showed clear anxiety during the procedure — at one point removing his pulse oximeter — but completed both the procedure and his inpatient treatment without incident.

After the procedure, Gangnam told his wife, former speed skater Lee Sang-hwa, that he had been ordered to refrain from running for three months. Following his discharge, his close friend Choi Seung-ri — a bond formed through the MBC program "I Live Alone" — stepped in to help, personally bathing Gangnam while he was unable to move, in a show of their deep friendship.

Gangnam told viewers that "good health is truly everything," urging them to take care of themselves.
