WWF collaboration features media art and customer participation campaign
Shinsegae Duty-Free announced Thursday it is launching the "Travel on, Live on" campaign with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to mark World Environment Day.
Conceived to mark the duty-free retailer's 10th anniversary, the campaign is an ESG (environmental, social and governance) initiative aimed at fulfilling the company's responsibility to protect nature as the foundation of travel. It features media art created using WWF endangered species data, bringing to life the characteristics and ecological data of wildlife across diverse climates — the Arctic, grasslands, rainforests and oceans — through infographic animation.
A customer participation program is also part of the campaign. Customers who purchase duty-free goods through the online store and opt out of receiving a disposable shopping bag will receive the "WWF & Shinsegae Duty-Free Signature Reusable Bag," made from 90 percent recycled materials. Shinsegae Duty-Free will donate funds to WWF in proportion to the number of customers who participate.
A joint fundraising campaign with WWF, titled "Journey with Nature," runs through June 30. Customers who donate 20,000 won (about $13) to WWF will have the same amount matched by Shinsegae Duty-Free, bringing the total contribution to 40,000 won. Participants will receive a "WWF Organic Socks" set and a reusable bag.
Funds raised through the campaign will go toward WWF's endangered species habitat conservation work. WWF conducts beach cleanups and ecological surveys on Jeju, a habitat for sea turtles, and carries out habitat surveys and monitoring in the Gwangneung Forest, home to the black woodpecker.
"We will continue our ESG efforts to carry on the value of travel we have shared over the past 10 years, while fulfilling our corporate social responsibility," a Shinsegae Duty-Free official said.
