Cheong Wa Dae said Friday it takes "seriously" the resignations tendered by National Election Commission Chairman Noh Tae-ak and Secretary General Heo Cheol-hun.
In a statement, Cheong Wa Dae said the commission "must provide a full and credible explanation to the public for the serious concerns it caused during the election process, and take strict follow-up measures." It added that the commission must also "responsibly carry out a comprehensive review of election administration and pursue institutional reforms to restore public trust."
Earlier Friday, Noh announced his resignation at the commission's headquarters in Gwacheon over a ballot shortage that occurred during the June 3 local elections. Heo also said he would step down.
