Jensen Huang says he ate the most at samgyeopsal dinner, reveals past Yongsan sales trips

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang revealed that he ate the most at the now-famous samgyeopsal and soju dinner with South Korean business leaders, and shared that he once walked the floors of Seoul's Yongsan Electronics Market handing out business cards.

On tvN's variety talk show "You Quiz on the Block," which aired Saturday, host Yoo Jae-suk asked Huang whether everyone had enjoyed the Monday dinner. "I'm the oldest one there, so I ate the most," Huang said.

The dinner, held Monday at a samgyeopsal restaurant called "Hyeongnim Jeoyo" near Hongdae in Mapo-gu, Seoul, brought Huang together with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo and Naver Chairman Lee Hae-jin in what has been dubbed the "samso meeting" — a play on samgyeopsal and soju.

In a preview clip released by tvN — billed as "Jensen Huang's world-first variety show debut, from the samgyeopsal dinner recap to life advice for the younger generation" — Yoo greeted Huang by saying it was an honor to have him, then asked how he preferred to be addressed. Huang replied warmly, "Just call me Jensen."

He then turned to Yoo and said, "This man's new name is MC Champion."

Huang also shared that he had once done sales rounds at Yongsan Electronics Market in Seoul.

Yoo told the audience that Huang had personally handed out business cards at Yongsan 30 years ago, adding that Huang had reportedly visited the market even in the 1990s and dined with shop owners there.

In response, Huang quipped, "You know how much I love to eat."

When asked which of the three — Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong, Hyundai Motor Co Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung or SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won — was his closest friend, Huang said "That's too easy," leaving viewers curious.

Huang also offered his personal insights on success.

Asked whether hardship was a prerequisite for success, Huang said suffering was not essential to life in general, but added, "To be great, you have to go through pain."

"Remember one thing," he said. "If you are unbreakable, you can succeed in any future." Yoo was visibly moved and reached out to grab Huang's hand, saying, "Let me shake your hand."

Meanwhile, Huang departed South Korea on Monday after a five-day visit.

Before leaving, he spoke briefly with reporters at the Seoul Gimpo Business Aviation Center (SGBAC) in Gangseo-gu, Seoul. "The welcome was truly wonderful — my family and I genuinely felt embraced," he said.

"We had very good meetings and announced very good partnerships," Huang said. He added that Nvidia had signed a multi-year partnership with SK Hynix to expand business and diversify cooperation, and had also concluded separate AI cloud partnerships with Naver and SK Telecom.
