Police launched an investigation after a student attacked a classmate with a knife at a middle school in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province.
According to police, a second-year male student, identified only as A, pulled out a knife and attacked a male classmate inside a classroom in Gojan-dong, Danwon-gu, Ansan, at around 10:20 a.m. Tuesday.
The victim sustained injuries to his face and forearm and was taken to a hospital. His condition is not believed to be life-threatening.
Police said A told investigators he attacked the classmate because he "felt annoyed."
A falls under the category of a "juvenile under criminal age" — between 10 and 14 years old — and is not subject to criminal punishment.
"The victim's injuries appear to be minor," a police official said. "We plan to investigate the full circumstances of the incident."
Police said they intend to refer A to the juvenile division of a family court once the investigation is complete.
