Korea Federation of Textile Industries appoints Byun Young-man as standing vice chairman

The Korea Federation of Textile Industries said Tuesday it had elected Byun Young-man (pictured), former policy planning director at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, as its standing vice chairman at the organization's second board meeting.

Byun graduated from Yonsei University with a degree in public administration and holds a master's degree in business administration from San Francisco State University. He also completed doctoral coursework in business administration at Soongsil University. A graduate of the 35th class of the national civil service examination, he previously served as director of the investment policy division at the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, director general for technology regulation response at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, policy adviser to the minister, policy planning director, and standing vice chairman of the Korea Iron and Steel Association.

"I will draw on more than 30 years of experience at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to do my utmost to strengthen the competitiveness and sustainable development of the textile and fashion industry," Byun said. He takes office June 15 and will serve a three-year term.
