3 group-stage matches to be broadcast on large LED screen at 'Hangang Plpl'
Football-themed photo zones, experience programs and pop-up events planned
Advance reservations required, with 100 spots available per match
Online events to predict first goal and final score also on offer
Fans can watch the 2026 North America World Cup in the open air along the Han River, starting Friday.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government's Future Han River Headquarters announced Wednesday that it will run the "Hangang Plpl North America World Cup Pop-Up" at Ttukseom Han River Park's multipurpose cultural space "Hangang Plpl" from Friday through June 28.
The event will run in line with the South Korean national team's group-stage schedule, with plans to extend the cheering program if the team advances past the round of 32. Hangang Plpl will offer live match broadcasts on a large LED screen alongside photo zones, experience programs, online events and a Hyundai Motor "Rr Rr Rr" pop-up.
The main group cheering sessions are scheduled to coincide with South Korea's three group-stage matches: against the Czech Republic on Friday at 11 a.m., Mexico on June 19 at 10 a.m. and South Africa on June 25 at 10 a.m., all Korean Standard Time. Matches will be broadcast live on the large LED screen in the Han River Panorama Zone, with designated cheering seats for spectators. Advance reservation holders will receive a camping chair or mat, non-alcoholic craft beer and cheering balloon sticks.
To minimize crowding and ensure a comfortable viewing environment, match attendance will be managed through an advance reservation system, with 100 spots available per session.
World Cup-themed photo zones and experience programs will also be set up during the event. Inside Hangang Plpl, a photo zone recreating a players' locker room will be installed for visitors to take commemorative photos.
Online events predicting the South Korean team's match results will also be available. Two events — "Predict the First Goal" and "Predict the Score" — are designed to encourage public participation.
A pop-up program in partnership with Hyundai Motor will also run at the venue. A World Cup-themed pop-up zone featuring "Rr Rr Rr," Hyundai Motor's Generation Z character IP, will operate Friday through Sunday and from June 26 through June 28.
"We have prepared a variety of programs so citizens can share the joy of cheering for the World Cup at the Han River," said Park Jin-young, head of the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Future Han River Headquarters. "We hope you come out with family and friends to experience a special cheering culture at the Han River."
