Woodcraft Comes to You — Eunpyeong-gu Launches Mobile Woodworking Experience

Eunpyeong-gu in Seoul (district mayor Kim Mi-kyung) said it will run a "mobile woodworking experience" program, bringing hands-on woodcraft activities to residents close to where they live.

The project is designed to let residents experience woodworking at transit hubs and other convenient locations in their neighborhoods while learning about resource recycling and the history and culture of Eunpyeong.

The program makes its debut at GTX Yeonsinnae849 Plaza on June 19, after which it will rotate through major transit points in the district — including Susaek Station, Gupabal Station and Yeokchon Station — offering woodworking exhibitions and hands-on activities at each stop.

To mark the Dano holiday, the opening event will feature two craft workshops: making a "Haechi keyring in hanbok" and a "traditional-pattern tile pot stand." Each session — held at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. — accepts up to 20 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is available through the Seoul Metropolitan Government's public service reservation system or on-site that day.

The venue will also showcase an upcycling exhibition titled "Eunpyeong Pabal, Running on the Breath of the Forest," crafted from waste timber collected from urban forests. The exhibition draws on the historical significance of Gupabal — once home to a relay station — and highlights the value of resource circulation.

"I hope this gives residents a chance to experience woodworking close to their daily lives and feel the value of resource recycling," district mayor Kim said. "We will continue to expand a range of activities that make carbon neutrality something people can practice in everyday life."
