Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched missiles and drones at American targets in the region, striking back after the US military carried out retaliatory strikes against Iran.
The IRGC said in a Telegram statement early Tuesday that Iran had fired missiles and drones toward US targets in the region, according to CNN.
The statement came shortly after CENTCOM, which is conducting the war against Iran, said on X that it was striking Iran in response to the downing of a US Army helicopter. Iran's semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported explosions in the southern Iranian cities of Sirik and Minab, as well as on Qeshm Island.
However, the governor of Minab — one of the areas where explosions were reported — later announced that no attack on the city had been reported, according to Iran's Mehr News Agency. Mehr said the blasts heard in Minab, an inland city, originated not in the city itself but in a coastal area bordering the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran's state-run Press TV reported that US strikes on southern Iran had subsided, amid signs that the IRGC launched its retaliatory strikes shortly after the American attack.
