Nana calls out 'no remorse' after home intruder sentenced to 7 years

Actor Nana, born Im Jin-ah and a former member of the girl group After School, criticized her attacker and expressed disappointment over his sentence after a court handed down its first-instance ruling in the armed home invasion case against her.

The first criminal division of the Namyangju Branch of Uijeongbu District Court sentenced the defendant, identified only by his surname Kim, 34, to seven years in prison Tuesday on charges of robbery causing bodily harm. Presiding judge Kim Guk-sik acknowledged all charges against Kim, saying he "broke into the victims' residence at night — a time when absolute peace must be preserved — while carrying a deadly weapon."

The court said it weighed several factors in determining the sentence, including the victims' physical and psychological suffering and their desire to see Kim punished, as well as the fact that the robbery was ultimately unsuccessful and that the weapon he carried did not appear to have been intended to cause injury.

Kim had filed a counter-complaint against Nana, accusing her of attempted murder and aggravated assault and claiming she had attacked him during the incident. The court rejected that claim, ruling that Nana and her mother had acted in self-defense.

Shortly after the verdict, Nana posted a screenshot of a news article about the sentencing to her Instagram story and criticized Kim's conduct throughout the proceedings.

She wrote alongside the post: "Who is the victim?" followed by the line: "Victim: ?, Criminal: 'I'm the wronged one,' Victim: ?"

She went on to say that "multiple trials were held because of the criminal — six open hearings and one closing argument hearing today," adding: "Consistent lies and reversals of testimony. The criminal shows no remorse."

Nana also shared a screenshot of a news report detailing Kim's unrepentant attitude, writing: "No remorse. No forgiveness."

She also made clear she was unsatisfied with the length of the sentence.

Noting that the charge of aggravated robbery causing bodily harm carries a possible sentence of life imprisonment or a minimum of seven years, she wrote that "prosecutors sought 10 years, and the court handed down 7" — punctuating the remark with a question mark.

Kim was indicted on charges of breaking into Nana's home in Guri, Gyeonggi Province, at around 5:38 a.m. on Nov. 15 last year, armed with a weapon. He allegedly grabbed both Nana and her mother by the throat and demanded money before the two women overpowered him, leaving the robbery attempt unsuccessful.

From the time of his arrest through the trial, Kim consistently maintained that Nana had attacked him first. The court rejected that claim.
