Payments hit 24.2 billion won in first week of June, up 12.8% from prior week; weekly app users near 4 million as recovery takes hold
Starbucks Korea's estimated weekly credit and debit card payments have rebounded for the first time in three weeks.
Mobile Index, a data platform operated by AI data-tech firm IGAWorks, reported Wednesday that Starbucks' estimated credit and debit card payments for the first week of June — from June 1 to 7 — totaled 24.21 billion won (about $15.9 million).
That marks a 12.8% increase from the 21.46 billion won recorded the previous week, from May 25 to 31, and represents the highest weekly figure and the first rebound since the "Tank Day" marketing controversy erupted around May 18.
However, payments have yet to recover to pre-controversy levels. In the week of May 11 to 17, just before the backlash began, estimated payments stood at 32.16 billion won.
Weekly payments tumbled to 23.69 billion won in the week of May 18 to 24, then fell further to 21.46 billion won the following week — marking two consecutive weeks of decline.
The Starbucks app's weekly active users also showed signs of recovery. The week of June 1 to 7 drew 3,985,819 users, up 3.6% from 3,847,205 the previous week.
