Campsite owner filmed women showering, then renamed business and kept operating

A campsite owner in Gyeonggi Province has been indicted on charges of illegally filming female guests in the shower.

The case was featured Tuesday on JTBC's "Sageon Banjang," which introduced the accounts of two women in their 30s who said they were secretly filmed by the owner during a visit last year to a campsite in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province.

According to their account, the two women booked the campsite in September last year after reading reviews praising its proximity to a valley stream and the owner's friendly demeanor.

As it was a weekday and no other guests were present, they spent the evening drinking and chatting with the owner.

The incident occurred late that night when the women went to use the shower facilities. As one of the women, identified only as A, finished showering and stepped out, she spotted a cellphone camera lens pointed at her through a window.

Startled, she screamed — and the camera immediately disappeared below the window ledge.

After getting dressed, A approached the owner, who was in a nearby bungalow, and asked whether he had filmed them. He initially denied it, but when his phone was checked, deleted video files were found to contain footage of the women undressed.

The owner later admitted he had filmed them out of sexual curiosity and said he had no intention of distributing the footage.

The victims said they were too frightened to leave immediately, as they were alone at the dark campsite with the owner. A said she had been drinking and could not drive, and that she was unable to sleep for the rest of the night.

The following morning, the owner's mother visited the women and asked them not to file a report. The owner also sent a handwritten apology. A said she found it insincere and ultimately filed a complaint with police.

A said she came forward because the owner had simply renamed the campsite and resumed operations without any further apology.

The owner told the program he had nothing to say, adding that he was no longer directly involved in running the campsite and that family members were now operating it.
