SK Hynix employee donates 5 million won, sparking giving chain on Blind

A donation drive for an orphanage library in Sejong that began with an SK Hynix employee has drawn contributions from workers at other companies as well.

On Monday, a post titled "Flexing with stock profits!" appeared on Blind, an anonymous online community for verified office workers. The author, identified only as A, shared a photo confirming a 5 million won (about $3,290) donation. A said the gift was inspired by a post from SK Hynix employee B, who had shared news of the completed renovation of a library at a Sejong orphanage.

"There's a good guy doing good things, so I donated hoping it would help," A wrote. He added that the contribution also covered what his colleagues would have spent on pizza and chicken had he bragged about his investment returns. "If you make money too, let's all try to do something good — even a small amount," he wrote, encouraging others to join in. He also praised the SK Hynix employee with the phrase "Hynix isn't called Hynix for nothing — it's Goodnix."

Employee B, who launched the library project, had visited the orphanage in February to deliver pizza and snacks and shared the experience on Blind. Within 10 days, more than 350 people had joined in, raising about 32 million won. The completed renovation post included before-and-after photos: a cramped space once cluttered with boxes and folding desks had been transformed into a study room with desks and chairs arranged along the windows, and the bathroom was refurbished with new fixtures.

Blind requires users to verify their employer through an official company email address before joining the platform.

SK Hynix posted record earnings last year, with sales of 97.1467 trillion won and operating profit of 47.2063 trillion won — both the highest in the company's history. Employees earning around 100 million won annually received performance bonuses of roughly 150 million won earlier this year.
