Kim Hyun-gi's transition committee to launch Thursday as Gangnam-gu district mayor-elect

The camp of Kim Hyun-gi, the incoming 9th-term Gangnam-gu district mayor, announced Wednesday that his transition committee will hold its inaugural ceremony Thursday at 10 a.m. in a meeting room on the fifth floor of the Gangnam-gu Health Center.

Kim Eui-seung, a former deputy mayor for administration of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, will chair the committee. Having spent 30 years in key positions across the city government, Kim Eui-seung is expected to map out the direction of the incoming administration and design a roadmap for its major campaign pledges. His long experience at the city level is also expected to help bridge cooperation between Seoul and Gangnam-gu. Kwon Oh-cheol, a former acting Gangnam-gu district mayor, was named vice chair.

Three members were appointed as subcommittee chairs: Lee Dong-ho, chair of the Gangnam District Council's steering committee, who won re-election; Kang Hyun-seop, a former head of the Gangnam-gu welfare and culture bureau who was elected to the district council representing the Apgujeong-dong and Cheongdam-dong area; and Kim Gil-young, the current chair of the Seoul Metropolitan Council's urban planning and balance committee. The full committee will comprise 15 members, drawing in specialists from fields including robotics, MICE, welfare and architecture.

The launch ceremony will proceed in three stages: a commissioning ceremony for transition committee members, the committee's first plenary session, and a signboard-unveiling ceremony. After the launch, the committee plans to hear briefings from the heads of each bureau, office and division, as well as the chairs of affiliated agencies, on key district issues and major projects — with mayor-elect Kim in attendance. Based on those briefings, the committee will develop action plans for each campaign pledge and a phased policy roadmap.

Kim won the June 3 local elections with 65.89 percent of the vote. A four-term Seoul city council member, he previously served as speaker of the Seoul Metropolitan Council during the first half of the 11th council term.
