South Korea mobilizes crowd safety measures ahead of BTS concerts in Busan

The Ministry of Interior and Safety said it held a crowd safety inspection meeting ahead of BTS concerts in Busan running Friday through Saturday.

Beyond the main performances at Asiad Main Stadium, a range of affiliated events are scheduled across the city, with large numbers of domestic and international visitors expected to converge on the concert venue and surrounding event sites.

At the meeting, Kim Gwang-yong, head of the ministry's disaster and safety management bureau, reviewed safety plans from each participating agency. He said inter-agency coordination and a swift response in emergencies were essential to preventing crowd-related accidents.

After the meeting, Kim inspected the venue's entrances, stage, seating areas and pedestrian walkways, calling for preemptive safety measures in high-risk zones — including the deployment of safety personnel and the installation of crowd-control barriers.

He also called for heat-related precautions given the daytime temperatures, asking organizers to ensure adequate drinking water, shade structures and emergency medical services for concertgoers and event staff.

The ministry said it would also deploy on-site safety coordinators to affiliated events held at various locations across Busan. Those coordinators will operate situation rooms together with Busan city officials, police and fire department personnel, and respond in real time as crowd conditions develop.

Minister of Interior and Safety Yun Ho-jung said the government would put visitor safety first and devote full resources to on-site crowd and heat management throughout the concerts and affiliated events. He also asked attendees to cooperate in maintaining order at all venues.
