Supply expansion to reach small businesses and general consumers beyond corporate customers
Dongsung Chemical, a materials science solutions company, and Sumwell Tech, an eco-friendly packaging firm, announced Friday they have signed a memorandum of understanding to expand supply of their compostable air-cap product ECOVIVA®.
The agreement combines Dongsung Chemical's materials technology with Sumwell Tech's manufacturing and retail capabilities to broaden the reach of eco-friendly packaging.
The signing ceremony was attended by Kim Geun-mo, executive director of Dongsung Chemical's bioplastics division, Kim Cheol-gyu, CEO of Sumwell Tech, and other officials from both companies.
Under the MOU, Dongsung Chemical will supply raw materials for the compostable air cap and provide processing technology support, while Sumwell Tech will handle manufacturing and both online and offline retail distribution.
The ECOVIVA air cap uses biodegradable resin certified under the Ministry of Environment's environmental label program (EL724). Under specific industrial composting conditions, more than 90 percent of the material breaks down into water and carbon dioxide within 12 weeks. The product has also received industrial composting certification and the Seedling mark from European certification body DIN CERTCO.
Amid growing demand for eco-friendly packaging driven by the spread of ESG management practices and tightening plastic-use regulation, the two companies plan to use the partnership as a springboard to extend their customer base beyond corporate clients to small business owners and general consumers.
"Through this partnership, a much wider range of consumers will be able to use the ECOVIVA air cap," Kim Geun-mo said. "We will work to expand sustainable packaging solutions that meet market demand."
Kim Cheol-gyu said the company plans to improve product accessibility and purchasing convenience by leveraging its online and offline retail capabilities. "We will contribute to the growth of the eco-friendly packaging market by building a stable supply system," he added.
