Company says product contains 1,200 mg of chondroitin, the highest single-dose amount available in South Korea
Kwangdong Pharmaceutical has launched Chondropower1200, an over-the-counter oral gel designed to relieve symptoms of degenerative arthritis.
The product contains 1,200 mg of sodium chondroitin sulfate — derived from bovine cartilage, which shares a similar structure to human cartilage — the highest single-dose amount of chondroitin available in South Korea. The company said it designed the product to be easy to take and minimize the burden of daily intake, given that joint health requires consistent management from an early stage.
The fast-absorbing gel formulation allows people who have difficulty swallowing pills to take it without water. Kwangdong said it added xylitol, a natural sweetener, to give the gel a mild sweetness and improve patient compliance.
The company said a study published in an SCIE-indexed journal found that the gel formulation reduced symptoms by 24 percent by day 14 of use, with a 50 percent reduction observed from day 91 onward, with the relief effect sustained.
"This product can help middle-aged and older adults who frequently use their joints during outdoor activities such as hiking, or who experience discomfort going up and down stairs," the company said. "It is indicated for mild to moderate degenerative arthritis."
