'Residents' One-Heart Walking Day' held Saturday morning at National Institute of Forest Science's Hongneung trail; event launched in 2002, attended by outgoing and incoming district mayors
Seoul's Dongdaemun-gu held the "2026 First-Half Dongdaemun-gu Residents' One-Heart Walking Day" Saturday morning along the Hongneung forest trail at the National Institute of Forest Science.
Organized by the Dongdaemun-gu Sports Council and sponsored by the district office, the event drew some 2,500 residents, who walked together along a roughly 2.5-kilometer stretch of the Hongneung trail in a celebration of health and community.
The "Dongdaemun-gu Residents' One-Heart Walking Day" is a community health event held annually since 2002. This year's gathering drew both outgoing District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung, attending one of his final official engagements of the eighth elected term, and Choi Dong-min, the district mayor-elect for the ninth term, both of whom greeted residents at the event.
The program opened with a jump-rope demonstration and warm-up exercises, followed by the group walk, celebratory performances, a residents' talent show and a prize raffle. Participants strolled the early-summer forest trail with family, friends and neighbors, taking in nature in the heart of the city.
"The One-Heart Walking Day is a meaningful event that symbolizes the health and unity of our residents," District Mayor Lee said. "I hope the culture of everyday sports and wellness that lets residents enjoy health and leisure in their daily lives will continue going forward."
