100 live rounds reported missing from Daejeon Prison armory; Ministry of Justice launches probe

Authorities have launched an investigation after a report emerged that live ammunition stored at Daejeon Prison had gone missing.

The Ministry of Justice recently received a report that 100 live rounds kept in the armory of the prison's security division had disappeared, according to Yonhap News Agency, and has since begun an investigation.

Daejeon Prison officials discovered a discrepancy between the number of rounds recorded in the armory logbook and the number physically on hand during a routine inspection, prompting them to file the report.

However, it has not yet been confirmed whether the rounds were physically removed or whether the logbook entries were simply recorded in error.

The Ministry of Justice plans to investigate the circumstances and timing of the disappearance while also examining whether any regulatory violations occurred, including failures in armory inspection procedures.
