Daegu's Nam-gu to host Anjjang Gopchang Alley Festival this weekend

Daegu's Nam-gu district will hold the "Anjjang Gop Festival — Find the Gold!" at Anjjang Gopchang Alley from June 19 to 20.

Organized by the Anjjang Gopchang Merchants' Association, the festival is designed to inject new energy into the struggling alley shopping district through a series of discount events.

The headline attraction this year is a steep price cut: participating member restaurants will sell a half-kilogram serving of gopchang — normally 14,000 won (about $9) — for 10,000 won, a roughly 30 percent discount.

A prize event will also run throughout the festival. Diners who spend 30,000 won or more at a member restaurant can exchange their receipt for a scratch lottery ticket.

One winner each day — two in total over the two-day event — will receive one don of pure gold.

"Even amid the difficult economic conditions lately, we wanted to make sure residents can enjoy themselves without feeling the pinch, so we put together the discount deals and prize events," an association official said. "We hope many people will come out, enjoy some delicious gopchang and try their luck at winning pure gold."
