Donald Trump announced Sunday that the United States had reached a deal with Iran to end their war.
Trump posted on his Truth Social account at around 5:30 p.m. Eastern time Sunday (6:30 a.m. Korean Standard Time Monday) that "the agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran has now been finalized," adding that he "fully approves the toll-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz."
"At the same time, I approve the immediate lifting of the US Navy's maritime blockade of Iran," he added. "Ships of the world, start your engines and let the oil flow."
The announcement effectively ended the war that began Feb. 28, when the United States and Israel launched airstrikes against Iran — bringing the conflict to a close after 106 days.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, whose country served as mediator, also confirmed the agreement on his X account, saying both sides "have declared an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon." Sharif announced that a formal signing ceremony between the United States and Iran would be held in Switzerland on June 19.
