Kim Hyo-joo, Choi Hye-jin finish runner-up at LPGA Dow Championship

Kim Hyo-joo and Choi Hye-jin finished runner-up at the LPGA Tour's Dow Championship, a two-player team event with a purse of $3.3 million.

Playing the final round Monday at Midland Country Club (par 70) in Midland, Michigan, the pair carded five birdies against no bogeys for a 5-under-par 65.

Their total of 15-under-par 265 was not enough, however, as the American duo of Jina Kim and Yana Wilson fired an 8-under 62 to overtake them by two strokes and win at 17-under 263.

The Dow Championship uses a team format in which pairs alternate shots on a single ball in rounds 1 and 3 (foursome), while in rounds 2 and 4 each player plays her own ball and the better score counts as the team score (four-ball).

Defending champions Im Jin-hee and Lee So-mi finished in a tie for third at 14-under 266 after carding a 9-under final round, while Kim Ah-rim and Yoon Yi-na tied for seventh at 11-under 269.

Kim Hyo-joo and Choi Hye-jin began the final round as the sole leaders by one stroke. Choi birdied the par-4 2nd hole to extend the margin, and Kim answered with a birdie on the par-5 3rd, keeping the gap at one.

Kim and Wilson then eagled the par-4 5th hole to take the lead for the first time. Kim Hyo-joo clawed back with consecutive birdies on holes 7 and 8 to pull level, but Wilson's birdie on the par-4 10th put the American pair back in front.

Kim and Wilson pulled away with birdies on the par-4 12th, par-4 14th and par-4 17th to build a three-stroke lead. Kim Hyo-joo and Choi responded with birdies on the 12th and the par-3 18th but could not close the gap, surrendering the title by two strokes.

Kim, a Korean American whose parents are from South Korea, claimed her first LPGA Tour win since her 2022 debut, while Wilson, who joined the LPGA Tour this season, earned her maiden victory in just her ninth event. The winning team took home $805,381 (approximately 1.22 billion won).

Kim Ah-rim and Yoon Yi-na closed with a 5-under round to finish at 11-under 269 and tie for seventh, while Ahn Na-rin and Joo Su-bin ended at 5-under 275 in a tie for 28th.

World No. 1 Nelly Korda of the United States, making her first appearance in the event in four years, teamed with Olivia Cowan of Germany to post a combined 8-under 272, good for a tie for 17th.
