Hyundai Rotem unveils AI counter-drone defense system for first time at Eurosatory 2026

Hyundai Rotem announced Monday that it is showcasing an AI-based advanced defense system and its vision for manned-unmanned teaming, or MUM-T, at Eurosatory 2026, the world's largest defense exhibition, running Monday through Friday in Paris.

Eurosatory draws more than 2,100 companies from roughly 70 countries. Hyundai Rotem is sharing a joint booth with Hyundai Wia under the Hyundai Motor Group pavilion to engage global customers.

The theme of the company's exhibition is "The Power Leading the Future of Defense," reflecting its intent to demonstrate future defense competitiveness through AI technology, products, ecosystems and partnerships.

The centerpiece of Hyundai Rotem's display is the global debut of an AI-based unmanned-turret counter-UAS multi-layered defense system. The system uses AI detection and identification algorithms to automatically analyze the type, distance and altitude of enemy drones, then responds to threats in sequential, consecutive stages based on assessed threat levels.

Built on an unmanned turret platform, the system combines soft-kill electronic jamming with hard-kill physical intercept capabilities. Radars and reconnaissance drones detect threats at long range, while AI analyzes risk levels in real time and carries out a first-stage neutralization via jammers. Follow-on responses can be tailored using direct-collision drones, unmanned turret fire and active protection systems.

Hyundai Rotem is displaying a scale model of a wheeled armored vehicle fitted with the unmanned-turret C-UAS multi-layered defense system, alongside video content illustrating its operational concept.

The company is also presenting an export variant of the K2 main battle tank. The upgraded model can be fitted with a remote-controlled weapon station, an active protection system and a drone jammer to meet modern battlefield requirements, with the company emphasizing its scalability to address diverse requirements from overseas customers.

In addition, Hyundai Rotem is presenting its future vision for MUM-T operations — a concept in which manned combat systems and unmanned platforms link and collaborate in real time through an AI network.

Supporting that vision is the HR-SHERPA, a multipurpose unmanned ground vehicle capable of remote and autonomous driving and configurable with a range of mission equipment including surveillance and reconnaissance gear, drones and anti-tank missiles. Hyundai Rotem plans to unveil several variant models to address diverse demand in the global defense market.

"We will continue to advance core technologies in protection and unmanned systems that safeguard human lives, and secure our competitiveness in the market."

Meanwhile, Hyundai Rotem participated in the World Defense Show 2026 held at the Riyadh Convention Center in Saudi Arabia in February, where it showcased key defense technologies including ground maneuver weapon systems, MUM-T capabilities and hydrogen mobility, continuing to build its profile across international defense platforms.
