'Green the Planet' campaign held at Dodam Garden in Seoul Forest
Hyundai Wia announced Monday that it is holding an environmental protection campaign at Seoul Forest to mark its 50th anniversary, aiming to promote biodiversity conservation and spread a culture of eco-friendly practices.
The company held its "Green the Planet" campaign at Dodam Garden inside Seoul Forest in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, on June 13 and 14, in partnership with Save the Children, an international NGO focused on children's rights.
Green the Planet is Hyundai Wia's environmental campaign to raise awareness of climate change and the value of biodiversity. The two-day event, organized to give added meaning to the company's 50th anniversary, drew approximately 3,000 visitors.
The event took place at Dodam Garden, a corporate partnership garden that Hyundai Wia created after signing an MOU with the Seoul Metropolitan Government in May. The company planted a variety of species there — including bluebeard and Korean meadowsweet — and established a dedicated space for nectar plants that serve as a food source for bees. The garden allows visitors to experience firsthand the importance of biodiversity and nature conservation.
In addition, the garden features a space dedicated to conveying nature protection messages through "Dodami," a Hyundai Wia character inspired by the yellow-throated marten, an endangered species.
Hyundai Wia also prepared a range of participatory programs to encourage visitors to take part in environmental protection efforts. In the "Wishing Together" program, participants wrote down actions they pledged to take for the environment on pinwheels, which were then displayed throughout the garden.
A program called "Dodami's Wish" was also offered for families and children. Children searched for Dodami figures hidden around the garden while learning about actions to protect endangered animals. Participants received seed kits so they could continue eco-friendly activities at home.
"We organized this environmental protection campaign to make our 50th anniversary even more meaningful," a Hyundai Wia official said. "We will strive to be a company that grows together with local communities through environmental protection and biodiversity conservation."
Meanwhile, Hyundai Wia earned a Gold rating from EcoVadis, a global ESG (environmental, social and governance) assessment agency, for the second consecutive year last year, receiving the highest score in the environmental category in the agency's 2024 sustainability evaluation.
