Yoon Hye-on appointed head of Korea foundation for women in science

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced Monday that it has appointed Yoon Hye-on, a senior research fellow at the Korea Basic Science Institute, as the new head of the Korea Foundation for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology. Her term will run three years.

Yoon holds a bachelor's degree in science education from Ewha Womans University, a master's degree in geology from Seoul National University, a master's degree in geochemistry from SUNY Stony Brook, and a doctorate in geochemistry from Seoul National University's Graduate School of Natural Sciences.

Since joining the Korea Basic Science Institute in 1994, she has served in a range of roles across the science and technology community, including as president of the Korean Women in Science and Engineering, chair professor at the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology, and general coordinator of the committee for establishing the Basic Plan for Science and Technology.

She has also received numerous honors, including the Science and Technology Promotion Medal (Ungbi) from the Ministry of Science and ICT, a commendation from the deputy prime minister of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, a presidential commendation for science and technology promotion on the 45th Science Day from the former Ministry of Science and Technology, and a citation from the Office for Government Policy Coordination.
