Daegu city announced Monday that it has mailed first-installment vehicle tax bills for 2026 to owners of approximately 850,000 registered vehicles in the city, based on registration records as of June 1.
Vehicle taxes are levied twice a year — in June and December — on owners listed in vehicle registration records as of the assessment dates of June 1 and Dec. 1.
The payment deadline for this first installment is July 3. Payments made after the deadline will incur a 3 percent surcharge.
Vehicles with an annual tax liability of 100,000 won (about $66) or less will be billed the full year's amount in this June cycle. Vehicles whose owners prepaid the full annual tax in January or March are exempt from this billing.
Taxpayers can pay without a paper bill through ATMs at any financial institution nationwide, the Wetax platform and its Smart Wetax app, or mobile payment services including Kakao Pay, Naver Pay and Payco.
For further inquiries about vehicle tax assessment or payment, residents should contact the tax office of the district or county where the vehicle is registered.
"Vehicle taxes are a vital source of revenue for improving residents' welfare and energizing the local economy," said Oh Jun-hyeok, head of Daegu's planning and coordination office. "We urge everyone to pay by the deadline to avoid surcharges and other penalties."
