Body of man in his 30s found at abandoned resort in Chungju

Police launched an investigation after a man in his 30s was found dead at an abandoned resort in Chungju, North Chungcheong Province.

According to police, the man, identified only as A, was discovered on the rooftop of the 20th floor of the resort at around 3 p.m. Sunday.

Four university students in their 20s found the body after visiting the site to recreate a horror experience they had seen in a YouTube video filmed at the derelict building, and then reported it to authorities.

Police said a note was found at the scene and that the man had suffered from a serious chronic illness. No signs of foul play have been found so far, they added.

The resort opened in 1992 but went bankrupt the following year and has since been left abandoned.
