KHNP chief inspects hydro, pumped-storage plants nationwide ahead of monsoon season

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power reviewed disaster prevention systems at hydro and pumped-storage facilities nationwide ahead of the monsoon season.

President Kim Hoe-cheon chaired the "2026 Hydro and Pumped-Storage Flood Season Response Review Meeting" at the company's headquarters in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, on Monday.

Held via videoconference, the meeting brought together plant managers from hydro and pumped-storage facilities across the country for an intensive review of each plant's response systems, key equipment status and emergency action manuals.

Participants focused particularly on verifying the operational readiness of emergency response systems to ensure an immediate reaction to unexpected events such as localized heavy downpours. They also shared follow-up measures identified through pre-monsoon inspections.

The company pledged to make community safety its top priority through rigorous dam management in preparation for intense rainfall, which has grown increasingly unpredictable amid recent climate anomalies.

"Safe operation of hydro and pumped-storage power plants ahead of the full monsoon season is critical to protecting the lives and property of the public," Kim said. "We will use this review as an opportunity for all facilities to maintain flood-season preparedness with greater vigilance than before."
