Gyeonggi Province holds 'MUCNIC' festival for families of people with disabilities

Gyeonggi Province held the "2026 MUCNIC Gyeonggi Province Hanmaeum Grand Festival" on June 13 at the Suwon No. 1 Outdoor Music Hall.

MUCNIC is a portmanteau of "music" and "picnic."

The event brought together families of people with disabilities and local residents, who enjoyed performances and hands-on programs in a spirit of communication and unity. Families watched performances and visited various activity booths, taking a break from their daily routines.

A highlight of the day was a performance by the Gyeonggi Rivera Orchestra, an ensemble made up entirely of musicians with disabilities. Their set — the product of two years of rehearsal and effort — drew sustained applause from the audience.

The Suwon Soriya Choir, a group of mothers raising children with disabilities, also took the stage, moving many in the crowd as they performed not just as caregivers but as individuals in their own right.

This year's festival carried added significance as disability family support centers from across Gyeonggi Province participated for the first time. Each regional center ran activity and information booths, engaging directly with families of people with disabilities and sharing their experiences of care and support built up in communities across the province.
