Milestone reached 8 months after 4 million mark, underscoring arboretum's role as urban green space
The National Arboretum of Sejong welcomed its 5 millionth cumulative visitor on June 13, the Korea Forest Service's affiliated Korea Arboretum and Gardens Institute (chairman Shim Sang-taek) announced Monday.
The arboretum, which opened on a provisional basis in October 2020, recorded 4 million visitors last October and added another 1 million in just eight months.
The arboretum has drawn visitors through a range of offerings — special exhibitions, evening openings, family activity programs and garden culture events — giving the public regular opportunities to experience nature and horticulture.
The milestone reflects the arboretum's expanding role as a public green space where urban residents can connect with nature and gardens, and serves as a meaningful indicator of the institution's operational success.
The arboretum plans to continue running diverse exhibitions and hands-on programs to make nature and garden experiences more accessible to the public.
"Reaching 5 million visitors is a testament to the attention and participation of everyone who has visited the National Arboretum of Sejong," director Kang Shin-gu said. "We will keep working to make it easier for people to experience nature and gardens through a wide range of exhibitions and programs."
