SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, 66, and Noh So-young, 65, director of Art Center Nabi, have failed to reach a mediated settlement in their asset division dispute.
The two sides are expected to take their battle to open court through formal trial proceedings.
The Seoul High Court's Family Division 1, presided over by Chief Judge Lee Sang-ju, declared mediation unsuccessful Monday, immediately after concluding the second mediation session in the asset division retrial on remand.
The collapse came roughly two months after the court referred the case to mediation on April 17.
The first formal hearing has been set for June 26.
