Chinese tourist defecates in female staff restroom at Incheon Airport

A Chinese tourist broke into a female staff restroom at Incheon International Airport and defecated inside, authorities said.

The Ministry of Justice's Incheon Airport Immigration and Foreign Affairs Office announced Monday that a man believed to be a Chinese tourist defecated in the washroom of a female immigration officer lounge on the second floor of the arrivals hall at Terminal 1 on the night of June 4.

The female staff lounge, located on the second floor of the arrivals hall, is a restricted security zone off-limits to the general public and arriving passengers alike.

Following the incident, airport immigration authorities installed a no-entry sign and a fence in front of the women's lounge and notified staff internally, according to officials.

Some immigration officers have raised complaints, saying the door lock on the women's lounge was not functioning properly at the time of the incident and that the Incheon Airport Immigration and Foreign Affairs Office has not taken active measures such as filing a police complaint.

The Incheon Airport Immigration and Foreign Affairs Office said the most likely explanation is that an arriving tourist who urgently needed to use a restroom wandered into the wrong area. Officials said they are also reviewing whether to request a formal investigation given the seriousness of the matter.
